The UAE's National Anti-Narcotics Authority, working with Ras Al Khaimah Police and other federal bodies, thwarted a drug trafficking plot this week, according to state news agency WAM.
The operation, overseen by the Federal Narcotics Prosecution, led to 24 arrests and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances before they could be distributed.
What happened in the UAE drug trafficking bust?
Authorities received a tip that narcotics were hidden at a location in one of the emirates. Specialized teams launched search and investigation operations and obtained legal warrants before carrying out a security operation. Two suspects were arrested while attempting to transport the drugs.
Who was behind the drug trafficking network?
The two initial suspects admitted they had received instructions from a key suspect based outside the country, who was managing the criminal operation remotely. Following further surveillance and investigation, authorities arrested 11 more suspects connected to this ringleader. These suspects were directly involved in distributing the narcotics across the UAE.
Which emirates were involved in the arrests?
Follow-up arrest and search operations took place in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ajman. These operations resulted in 10 additional arrests, bringing the total number of suspects to 24. Authorities also seized varying quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances during these raids.
What drugs were seized in the operation?
Investigators uncovered a separate storage site containing large quantities of marijuana, hash oil and synthetic cannabinoid papers. All seized materials were sent to forensic laboratories for examination. A dedicated team from the Federal Narcotics Prosecution was formed to handle the investigation and pursue legal action.
Authorities said the operation reflected close coordination between the Public Prosecution and security agencies in combating organized criminal networks. Officials added that the case demonstrates ongoing efforts to take deterrent legal action against those involved in narcotics distribution.
