The UAE government has introduced the Emirati National Identity Strategy, a comprehensive framework developed jointly by the Ministry of Culture and the National Projects Office of the Presidential Court, WAM reported.

The initiative was launched during the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

The announcement was made by Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, during a session titled “Legacy and Responsibility.” He said the strategy aims to consolidate national identity, strengthen social cohesion, and integrate Emirati values across all sectors.

An accompanying exhibition, “Emirati National Identity: Legacy and Responsibility,” showcased the cultural and social principles underpinning the national identity and encouraged their application in public and community life.

The strategy envisions a society deeply rooted in Emirati values and culture, while promoting unity, coexistence, and a shared sense of belonging among both citizens and residents. It seeks to reinforce family bonds, preserve national heritage, and enhance the UAE’s cultural presence globally.

Developed with input from more than 40 federal and local entities, the framework is built on three main pillars: defining the identity and its core values, embedding it across government and community sectors, and establishing a governance model supported by a National Identity Index to measure progress.

The national identity is based on six core components — Islamic values, the Arabic language, the Union, heritage and traditions, history and collective memory, and the family as the cornerstone of society. It also promotes five key values: respect, ambition, belonging, cohesion, and generosity.

The strategy includes 13 initiatives spanning culture, education, family, media, and the economy. Key projects include integrating national identity into school curricula, developing a cultural activities framework, introducing a media content code of conduct, and launching initiatives such as “We Are the Children of Zayed” and “Nahj” to promote community engagement.

A National Identity Committee will oversee implementation, ensuring collaboration among institutions and sustainability of impact.

In a statement, Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the strategy reflects a shared responsibility to preserve Emirati identity through everyday practices, language, and values. She noted that it unites citizens and residents under common principles of respect, coexistence, and belonging.

Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi said the initiative translates the leadership’s vision into practical measures that embed Emirati identity within institutions and communities, ensuring future generations remain connected to their heritage while embracing progress.
