Fifteen participants of the Towards the Summits program - including Emirati women - have successfully reached the summit of Mount Elbrus, Europe’s tallest mountain at 5,642 meters, raising the UAE flag at the peak, WAM reported.
The climb, organized under Sharjah Capability Development (Tatweer), was more than just a mountaineering achievement. Battling freezing temperatures, heavy snow and the challenges of high altitude, the group demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and leadership throughout the journey.
For participants, the experience went beyond physical endurance; it was a lesson in discipline, collaboration, and perseverance. The program aims to equip young Emiratis with life skills that strengthen their ability to lead, adapt under pressure, and overcome obstacles — lessons that extend far beyond the mountains.
Khalid Ibrahim Al Nakhi, Director of Sharjah Capability Development, praised the achievement, saying the climbers’ success reflects the strength and determination of UAE youth. “Their journey to the summit is proof that investing in young people’s potential is an investment in the nation’s future,” he said.
The expedition was the culmination of a rigorous program that began with training in Kyrgyzstan, followed by advanced preparation at Ski Dubai, before the final challenge on Mount Elbrus. By raising the UAE flag on Europe’s highest peak, the climbers not only celebrated personal triumph but also reinforced Sharjah’s role in empowering youth and showcasing Emirati talent on the global stage.
