The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is developing the world’s first ChatGPT-based tool tailored for the agricultural community. Dubbed “CHAG” (Chat + Ag), the tool aims to revolutionize farming by offering actionable insights, particularly for farmers in challenging climatic conditions, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The announcement was made by Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, head of the International Affairs Office in the UAE Presidential Court, at the UAE Pavilion during COP29, where events focused on leveraging technology, collaboration, and data to accelerate decarbonization and drive the global energy transition.
CHAG, designed to be fully accessible, draws on over 50 years of research data and exemplifies the UAE’s expertise in developing large-language models.
By equipping farmers with tools to make informed decisions — such as optimal planting and harvesting times — CHAG is set to transform agricultural practices, reported WAM.
“Instead of providing a general forecast, we are translating all this into something actionable for farmers with the power of AI,” said Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation noted Celeste Saulo.
The session, hosted in collaboration with AIM for Scale, a UAE-Gates Foundation partnership, also highlighted how this innovation would help farmers adapt to volatile weather patterns and improve resilience in agricultural production.
President and CEO of UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA) Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan opened the day with a session on scaling carbon footprint reduction in the UAE.
Discussing carbon markets’ role in green economic growth, Head of Business Development at Seagrass-E.ON Fanny Modin hailed the UAE’s leadership, describing the ALTÉRRA fund as “a significant game-changer.”
