The United Arab Emirates is pressing ahead with efforts to restore access to clean water in Gaza, continuing the rehabilitation of potable water wells in the central region as part of its humanitarian mission, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, WAM reported.
Supported by Sharjah Charity International, the Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Charity and Humanitarian Foundation, and Dar Al Ber Society, the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility in Gaza. The project focuses on repairing and reactivating vital municipal water wells across the enclave.
With Gaza facing an acute water crisis amid widespread infrastructure damage and a collapsing sanitation system, the initiative comes at a critical moment. The shutdown of desalination plants and fuel shortages have left hundreds of thousands without access to safe drinking water, heightening the risks of dehydration, disease, and malnutrition.
The UAE-led effort involves comprehensive maintenance of water well systems, including pump and generator repairs, to restore clean water supply to central Gaza communities. The project is aimed at easing the humanitarian strain and ensuring a sustainable flow of safe water for those most in need.
Water access remains a core priority under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, which the UAE launched at the onset of the Gaza conflict. Among its latest efforts is a strategic project to supply desalinated water from Egypt to the Al-Mawasi areas of Rafah and Khan Younis -- a move expected to benefit some 600,000 residents in southern Gaza.
