Abu Dhabi-based LODD, a leader in AI-powered drone technology and autonomous aerial logistics, has partnered with Skyports Infrastructure to develop vertiports across three strategic locations in the UAE capital. This initiative aims to revolutionize air mobility solutions, integrating cutting-edge infrastructure into Abu Dhabi’s transportation network to enhance cargo and passenger movement.

The announcement was made at the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2025, held in Abu Dhabi from February 10 to 12. During the event, LODD and Skyports signed an MoU to develop vertiport infrastructure, connecting key locations within Abu Dhabi and potentially linking other Emirates. These vertiports will be crucial in supporting the launch and scaling of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations and autonomous aerial logistics.

A future-ready air mobility network

Rashid Al Mannai, CEO of LODD, emphasized that vertiports are a major step toward integrating uncrewed aerial mobility into Abu Dhabi’s public transport system. He highlighted that the designs are backed by extensive feasibility studies and collaboration with key stakeholders, ensuring a scalable and efficient air mobility network.

"Abu Dhabi serves as a global model for air mobility, thanks to its progressive systems. These vertiports will lay the foundation for a future-ready network, supporting both commercial eVTOL passenger services and autonomous aerial logistics."

Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, underscored the significance of cargo operations in Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) future, stating:

"The unveiling of these designs and signing of an MoU highlights the progress being made in defining Abu Dhabi’s AAM infrastructure network. Cargo is just as vital as passenger operations, and a comprehensive network will deliver far-reaching benefits to both people and businesses in the Emirate."

Strategic locations and vision for innovation

The project has involved airspace evaluation, regulatory analysis, and feasibility studies for three key locations: Al Bateen, Yas Island, and Khalifa Port. More than 34 stakeholders participated, and 14 potential sites were assessed, culminating in a detailed feasibility study submitted to the Abu Dhabi government.

As the UAE continues to position itself as a global leader in advanced technologies and AI-driven solutions, initiatives like this reinforce Abu Dhabi’s commitment to a knowledge-based, sustainable economy. With LODD and Skyports Infrastructure driving this transformation, Abu Dhabi is solidifying its role as a regional hub for innovation in urban air mobility.
