US troop deaths during the US-Israeli war with Iran exceed the Pentagon's public count by at least four, the Washington Post reported on Friday. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied the report.

How many US troops have died in the Iran war?

The Washington Post reported at least 22 US military fatalities, four more than the Pentagon's public database shows. Five unidentified officials gave the figure.

Another unidentified official said not all of the undisclosed deaths were directly tied to the conflict, but involved US personnel in the Middle East amid ongoing hostilities.

The deaths occurred during a months-long conflict.

What did Hegseth say about the report on US troop deaths?

Hegseth, in a post on X, called the report "a complete LIE." The Post said in its story that the Pentagon had declined to address its questions about the discrepancy in casualty accounting.

The Post did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
