Buying a hybrid to save fuel? That plan may get expensive.

Documents suggest the IMF wants Pakistan to end sales tax concessions on locally manufactured hybrid vehicles and bikes from July 1.

Currently, hybrids enjoy reduced tax rates under the 8th Schedule — 8.5% up to 1800cc and 12.75% for 1801-2500cc.

All eyes are now on how far the government goes in meeting IMF demands, and whether any relief is offered to the auto industry and consumers.
