A quick-thinking woman in Ajman was recognized by authorities after she helped save a two-year-old child who was dangerously perched on the edge of a high-rise balcony, according to a Khaleej Times report.
The woman was looking out from her window when she noticed the toddler standing precariously on a chair on a neighboring balcony. She promptly called the police, who rushed to the scene and ensured the child’s safety.
Officials later determined that the child’s parents were not supervising him at the time. Legal action was initiated against them for endangering their child’s life through negligence.
Later, the Ajman Police honored the woman for her vigilance and swift action. Major General Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director General of Police Operations, praised her for demonstrating a strong sense of civic duty.
Authorities used the incident to remind families -- especially those living in high-rise buildings -- of the need to install safety locks on windows and avoid placing furniture near balconies, to prevent similar accidents.
Police reiterated that under UAE law, guardians are held legally accountable if a child's safety is compromised due to neglect.
