Yamaha Motor Pakistan has announced it will discontinue the manufacturing of motorcycles in the country, citing a shift in its business policy, the company said in a notice issued on Monday.

The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer expressed “sincere gratitude” for the “loyalty” of Pakistani riders over the years, while confirming production will cease.

Despite ending manufacturing operations, Yamaha said it will continue to provide after-sales support. Spare parts will remain available through authorized dealers with sufficient stock, and the company pledged to honor existing warranties.

“We will continue to do our utmost to support your motorcycle experience, and we are committed to serving you sincerely until the very end,” the statement said.

The company added that inquiries can be directed to its official website, email, or WhatsApp helpline.

Yamaha Motor Pakistan, part of the global Yamaha brand, has operated from the Bin Qasim Industrial Park in Karachi. Its exit marks another setback for Pakistan’s struggling auto sector, already hit hard by inflation, currency depreciation, and declining consumer demand.

Two-wheeler sales

In July, 121,026 motorbikes were sold in Pakistan, up by 45% from 83,369 units in June 2024. However, month-on-month sales were down 11% from 136,074 units sold in June.

According to an analyst, the higher June sales were a result of expectations that the government might impose new taxes in the federal budget or increase tariffs on the import of spare parts.
