Noor Zaman made history by winning the inaugural U23 World Squash Championship on home soil, defeating Egypt's Kareem El Torkey in a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory at Karachi's DHA Creek Club.
The Pakistani athlete's gold medal performance earned him $5,250 in prize money and congratulations from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari, who celebrated his achievement as a source of national pride.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, attending as the president's representative, called the tournament a milestone for squash in Pakistan.
The championship also featured Egypt's Fairooz Aboulkheir winning the women's title with a 3-0 victory over Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk
