At least two police officers were killed and two others wounded when a roadside bomb struck a police vehicle during a routine patrol in Pakistan's northwestern Tank district on Monday. Authorities launched a search operation and tightened security across the district, police said.
What happened in the Tank IED attack?
A roadside bomb struck a police armored personnel carrier near Mushah Jan Bungalow on Jandola Road as it patrolled the area. District Police Officer Abdul Samad said initial investigations suggest an improvised explosive device targeted the vehicle, killing two officers and injuring two others.
Who were the officers killed and injured?
Police identified the officers killed as Assistant Sub-Inspector Fareedullah and Constable Akhtar Zaman. The two injured, Constables Abdul Malik and Qudratullah, were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Samad confirmed a search operation was underway to find those responsible.
How have officials responded to the attack?
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan condemned the bombing as a cowardly and reprehensible act. He said such violence would not let militants achieve their objectives and that the officers' sacrifices would not be in vain.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the attack and directed police to submit a report on the incident. He described the slain officers as the pride of the nation.
Who is behind the Tank district attack?
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. The region has frequently been targeted by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Ittehadul Mujahideen Pakistan and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, which have carried out repeated attacks against security forces and government officials.
