Coldplay will release 2 more albums before retiring
The band's breaking up :'(
Nobody said it was easy...to make music forever.
After sending fans into a frenzy trying to bag tickets to their The Music of the Spheres World Tour, Coldplay has now announced when the band will be retiring.
In an interview with Zane Lowe that was posted on the group's YouTube account, Chris Martin shared that Coldplay will only release 12 "proper albums" in total before taking their final bow. The band's 10th album, Moon Music drops this Friday.
Lowe, like us, can be seen saying he wants 50 more Coldplay albums but Martin disagrees.
"Less is more, and for some of our critics, even less would be even more. There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 ½ Beatles' albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes. And also, having that limit means that the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it's almost impossible, which is great. So where we could be kind of coasting, we're trying to improve."
However, even though Coldplay’s album era might come to an end, that doesn’t mean their creativity will.
"The joy of making something will always continue in some way but there's something about the Coldplay thing," added Martin. "I don't know where the songs come from. I don't know where the ideas come from, but that's just been coming to me for about four or five years now. Like, 'You have to finish like this,' and I trust that just like I trust the songs."
"So if we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it'll be something different, or it'll be a side thing, or it'll be a compilation of things we hadn't finished.
