The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of visitors for Diwali, the festival of lights, with a week of prayers and cultural events, according to The National and Gulf News.

The temple, which is typically closed on Mondays, will remain open on October 20 to mark Diwali, with special puja (prayers) scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. local time and visiting hours extended until 9 p.m. local time.

“Diwali is a time to seek divine blessings and renew the bonds of love and faith. Bring your loved ones, offer your prayers, and begin the new year with the grace of Bhagwan,” temple organizers said in a statement.

Celebrations will begin earlier, with Gulf News reporting that Dhanteras — a day dedicated to prosperity — will be observed on October 18 with an online Dhan Puja from 7:20 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. local time. The temple has released preparation guidelines and will share a live webcast link on its website.

Cultural programs and devotional events will take place daily from October 18, culminating in post-Diwali festivities running through October 26.

Following the main Diwali celebrations, the temple will host Annakut on October 22 and Maha Annakut on October 25 and 26. Annakut, an ancient Vedic ceremony, involves offering the first meal of the new year to the deity in gratitude and devotion. The Maha Annakut will feature hundreds of vegetarian dishes and special decorations.

The temple management said families can participate by contributing to Annakut Thalis Seva, adding that each offering represents a family’s “gratitude and devotion.”

Visitors are required to register for both the puja and temple entry on the Mandir’s official website. Food items, bags, and prasad will not be permitted inside the premises, and guests are advised to review visitor guidelines to avoid delays at security.
