Dubai’s administration is preparing to install more than 100 new electric vehicle chargers in key locations across the city as part of its ongoing green mobility drive.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) signed a strategic agreement this month with the publicly listed firm Parkin to expand the emirate’s EV charging network, Gulf News reported.
In the first phase, chargers will be installed in high-traffic areas, with officials saying a broader rollout will follow to ensure comprehensive coverage across the emirate.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s chief executive officer, said the partnership supports Dubai’s environmental goals. “Guided by the vision of the wise leadership, we continue to strengthen Dubai’s green mobility ecosystem and promote the use of electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector,” he said.
The initiative is a public-private partnership, with DEWA responsible for infrastructure and Parkin managing service delivery.
Parkin CEO Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali said the move marks an expansion for the company beyond traditional car park operations.
“By introducing EV charging stations at prime destinations across the city, we are providing residents and visitors with convenient, reliable services that seamlessly integrate into their daily lives,” he said.
DEWA currently operates more than 1,500 public charging points across Dubai.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, chairman of Parkin’s board, said the expanded network reinforces Dubai’s role as a global leader in sustainability.
The collaboration aligns with Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy, which aims to increase the use of electric and hybrid transport and reduce emissions from the transport sector.
