Two men caught begging in Dubai were discovered to be in possession of significant assets, including luxury cars and large sums of cash, Gulf News reported citing Dubai Police.
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department, said the cases underscore how some individuals exploit public sympathy to generate substantial income.
In one case, authorities apprehended a Dubai resident who continued to beg despite owning three high-end cars.
In a separate incident, an Asian man was arrested near mosques and residential neighborhoods while carrying his two-year-old child, apparently to elicit donations from passersby.
Police found approximately Dh20,000 in multiple foreign currencies, reportedly collected within just a few days. The man, who was in the UAE on a visit visa, was handed over to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
Additionally, Dubai Police arrested another beggar in a local market who had spread a mat to solicit alms. A search revealed Dh25,000 concealed beneath the mat.
