Pakistan has appointed Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC), according to a notification issued by Cabinet Division.

This appointment follows the completion of Hayat's tenure as CEO in November, after which Khurram Mushtaq briefly served as acting CEO.

In November, PIAC also advertised the position to hire a permanent chief for the national flag carrier.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the national flag carrier, operates both domestic and international flights with a fleet of 34 aircraft.

Recently, PIA announced the commencement of direct flights from Islamabad to Paris, starting January 10.

The national flag carrier reported a loss of more than PKR 76 billion in the first nine months of 2023. The airline’s total liabilities stand at PKR 831 billion, while its total assets are valued at PKR 171 billion.

In October, the government initiated a bidding process for stakes in PIA. However, the privatization effort was halted due to the absence of satisfactory bids.
