MTG's cultural vision: Maheen Mustafa of MTG bridges cultures with global media collaborations

Fawad Khan, former lead singer of the iconic band Entity Paradigm (EP) and now a world-renowned actor, has once again captured the spotlight with his recent musical collaboration. This time, Khan lends his voice to a unique project by a US-based media outlet, MTG, led by Maheen Mustafa. The track, a mashup of Ali Azmat’s classic 'Taara Jala' and Rihanna’s global hit 'Diamonds', also features the soulful vocals of rock band Kashmir's lead singer Bilal Ali and Filipina-Pakistani artist Maria Unera.

What’s in the video?

The music video is a vibrant compilation of prominent Pakistani and international figures. Fawad Khan, Bilal Ali, and Maria Unera’s performances are interspersed with highlights from Ali Azmat’s Junoon days, iconic images of Pakistani squash legends Jansher and Jahangir Khan, singers like Nazia Hasan and the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

It also features cameos from well-known US and Pakistani actors besides celebrating the achievements of Nora Al-Matrooshi, the first Arab woman from the UAE to graduate from NASA’s astronaut program. In a nostalgic twist, the video honors legends like Moin Akhtar, Haseena Moin, and Mehdi Hasan while celebrating contemporary figures like Malala Yousafzai, Shehzad Roy, and the award-winning film Joyland.

Why this collaboration is important?

MTG, a Seattle-based global media outlet helmed by Maheen Mustafa, has embarked on its fourth collaboration with this project. Despite having a modest following, with just hundreds of subscribers, Mustafa is enthusiastic about the future of her platform.

This latest collaboration highlights her commitment to bridging cultures and celebrating diverse achievements through music and media. Fawad Khan recently shared this video on his Instagram stories as well. He was last seen performing in Battle of the Bands in 2018 and later in 2019 for the PSL anthem titled 'Khel Deewano Ka'.
