Huawei unveiled a new Wheelchair Mode for its HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 Series at GITEX 2025, marking a major step in inclusive health technology. The feature will be available globally via software update in early November, coinciding with the Dubai Ride event.
The innovation was inspired by a suggestion from His Excellency Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee. It allows wheelchair users to track their physical activity through advanced sensors and algorithms, offering health insights previously unavailable to them.
Using inertial measurement units (IMUs), push-detection algorithms, and wheel rotation sensors, Wheelchair Mode calculates push frequency, force, speed, and distance. Paired with the HUAWEI TruSense System – featuring continuous heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, calorie estimation, and pressure sensing – it provides a complete wellness profile tailored to wheelchair movement.

Majid Rashed praised Huawei’s initiative, saying, “When I first suggested the idea of a wheelchair mode, I hoped to see a technology brand take the step toward true inclusivity. Huawei not only listened but acted with great determination. By bringing this feature to life, Huawei has shown a genuine commitment to empowering people of determination and ensuring that technology serves everyone equally.”
Globally, more than 80 million people rely on wheelchairs for mobility. For them, Huawei said, the new mode is more than a fitness tracker – it’s a tool for health monitoring, injury prevention, and personal empowerment.
“At Huawei, we believe that technology should empower everyone,” said Bruce Li, Country Manager for Huawei Consumer Business Group in the UAE. “Our commitment to people of determination drives us to create inclusive innovations that make everyday life smarter, healthier, and more connected for all.”

The WATCH GT 6 Series also features up to 21 days of battery life in light-use mode, durable materials suited for daily wear, and Huawei’s TruSense System for deeper insights into cardiovascular health and emotional wellbeing. It includes fall detection and emergency alert features that automatically notify trusted contacts in case of an accident.
Huawei said the Wheelchair Mode rollout will begin in early November, with its public debut tied to the Dubai Ride. The company described it as a milestone in wearable technology, developed through collaboration and a shared vision of inclusive innovation.
