Pakistan Idol witnessed major upheaval this week as multiple developments unfolded simultaneously, changing the course of the competition and sparking widespread debate among fans and industry observers.

Fan-favorite contestant Muhammad Ibrar Shahid officially exited Pakistan Idol, triggering speculation about the reasons behind his sudden departure. Social media buzzed with claims that Ibrar objected to the alleged use of auto-tune during performances. However, sources close to the show suggest that the decision may have stemmed from emotional distress following negative feedback from judges and viewers, marking the first time Ibrar faced strong criticism since the auditions.

According to the show’s format, judges assess contestants based on their clean, live vocals, with no post-performance alterations. Industry insiders emphasize that any critical remarks from the judges indicate performance-level shortcomings rather than technical manipulation. This is particularly notable given Ibrar’s journey, as he remained a consistent judge favorite from the audition rounds onward.

Earlier, Abrar had told Nukta that he wanted to introduce something different and experimental on the Pakistan Idol stage, a move that may not have resonated as expected during his recent performance.

Meanwhile, the competition also saw Faryal Amber returning to the show after recovering from health issues, while Muhammad Minaam entered Pakistan Idol through a wildcard, further intensifying the race.

Ibrar’s exit has not gone down well with fans. While sympathy exists, many viewers have expressed disappointment, saying they wanted to support him through votes and see him reach at least the Top Five instead of leaving midway.

In response to the controversy, Pakistan Idol’s management has indicated it may pursue legal action, stating that the show strictly adheres to the international standards set by Fremantle, the global rights holder of the Idol franchise. The management reiterated that all contestants are contractually bound to comply with the show’s rules and format.

Separately, fans also raised concerns over the absence of judge Fawad in recent episodes, where Farhan Saeed and Shuja Haider appeared as guest judges. The production team clarified that Fawad is currently occupied with the promotion of his upcoming project Neelofar and is expected to return soon.

As Pakistan Idol heads into its crucial phases, the show finds itself balancing talent, emotions, and strict format rules, proving once again that the journey to stardom is rarely drama-free.
