The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to formally inform the Bangladesh government that the team risks being replaced at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup if it continues to refuse to travel to India for its scheduled matches.
The development followed an ICC Board vote today in which a majority of members were in favor of allowing a replacement team should Bangladesh remain unavailable.
According to sources, the BCB has been given one final day to convey its position to the ICC. If Bangladesh maintains its stance, Scotland is expected to be named as the replacement in Group C, despite having failed to qualify for the tournament after finishing behind the Netherlands, Italy and Jersey in the European Qualifier.
The crucial meeting was attended by directors of all Full Member nations, including ICC chair Jay Shah, BCB president Aminul Islam, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, SLC president Shammi Silva, CA chairman Mike Baird, and representatives from Zimbabwe Cricket, Cricket West Indies, Cricket Ireland, Cricket New Zealand, the ECB, Cricket South Africa and Cricket Afghanistan. Senior ICC management, including CEO Sanjog Gupta, deputy chair Imran Khawaja and GM Events Gaurav Saxena, were also present, along with Associate Member directors Mubashshir Usmani and Mahinda Vallipuram.
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group C of the 2026 T20 World Cup and are scheduled to play their first three matches in Kolkata on February 7, 9 and 14, followed by their final group game in Mumbai on February 17.
