India agreed to supply Indonesia with long-range missiles, an Indian official said Tuesday, as President Prabowo Subianto hosted Modi in Jakarta for a three-day state visit.
A deal on the BrahMos missile system topped the agenda.
What is the BrahMos missile deal between India and Indonesia?
India and Indonesia agreed on cooperation covering India's BrahMos missile system, Indian foreign ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on X.
The two countries also reached a separate agreement on air-to-air missile cooperation meant to boost technology collaboration and defense capabilities. Neither government has disclosed specific terms of either agreement.
How are India and Indonesia deepening defense ties?
Modi said the two countries agreed to enhance defense exchanges, disaster management and industrial cooperation. He pointed to growing trust between Jakarta and New Delhi as the basis for cooperation in defense, security and maritime affairs.
The coast guards of both nations will also work together on maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean.
What economic agreements did India and Indonesia announce?
Asia's two biggest democracies agreed to cooperate on critical minerals, which Indonesia produces in abundance, and on steel. Modi said a new partnership between companies in the two countries is beginning in stainless steel and rare earth magnets.
Prabowo called economic cooperation one of the main pillars of bilateral relations, and the two leaders agreed to increase bilateral trade and accelerate talks on a preferential trade agreement.
What else is on Modi's Indonesia visit agenda?
Prabowo and Modi welcomed efforts to restore the Prambanan temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yogyakarta, and plan to visit it together on Wednesday.
Modi will travel to Australia and New Zealand after concluding his Indonesia visit, according to a statement from India's foreign ministry.
