K-Electric proposes monthly relief of PKR 6.62 per kWh for customers
NEPRA to hold public hearing on fuel charge adjustments; sixth consecutive benefit for KE customers

K-Electric has submitted a provisional request for a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for February 2025, proposing a relief of PKR 6.62 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for its customers, the company announced Monday.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to conduct a public hearing on April 16 to determine the final FCA amount and the period of its application. This marks the sixth consecutive month that K-Electric has passed on FCA benefits to its customers.
Previous FCA reliefs include PKR 0.18 per kWh in September 2024, PKR 0.49 per kWh in October, and PKR 1.23, PKR 3.00, and PKR 3.02 per kWh in November, December, and January, respectively.
Fuel charge adjustments reflect fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in electricity generation mixes. When prices drop internationally, the cost reductions are passed on to customers through lower FCA rates.
K-Electric also highlighted recent adjustments concerning part-load, degradation curves, and startup costs aligned with the Generation Tariff for its power plants post-June 2023. The company has requested NEPRA to account for these costs from negative fuel cost variations to prevent additional burdens on consumers in the future.
All FCA calculations adhere to regulatory guidelines and undergo NEPRA’s approval before being incorporated into customer bills.
