Amid ongoing tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Multan Sultans have submitted a comprehensive proposal to the country’s cricket governing body, calling for reforms aimed at enhancing governance, transparency and collaboration within the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In a letter addressed to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the franchise acknowledged the recent strains between the board and the teams but described the situation as an opportunity to rebuild trust and introduce professional systems that could help the PSL achieve its full potential.

Ali Khan Tareen reaffirmed Multan Sultans’ long-standing commitment to the league and its continued development. The letter raised concerns over ad hoc decision-making and limited management experience in certain areas, stressing the need for structured processes, institutional accountability and professional standards across the board.

Proposals

The Sultans’ proposal urges greater franchise representation in PSL committees and working groups, ensuring that decisions on scheduling, recruitment, ticketing, marketing and match-day operations reflect the collective experience of all participating teams.

It also calls for a transparent, merit-based hiring process for key PSL roles with franchises involved in defining positions, vetting candidates and selecting qualified professionals from across the region, rather than relying solely on current or former PCB staff.

The franchise further proposed the establishment of a professional management structure, featuring clearly defined departments for operations, marketing, fan engagement, player affairs, and finance each headed by qualified executives.

The proposal emphasizes that these reforms are driven by the spirit of partnership rather than control, aiming to align all stakeholders around the shared vision of building a globally respected cricket league that represents Pakistan with pride.

Concluding the letter, Multan Sultans stated that after a successful decade it is time for the PSL to evolve into a more professional, transparent and globally competitive sports league.

Meanwhile, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen recently issued what appeared to be a sarcastic apology to the PCB amid their ongoing dispute over the PSL. The board had earlier sent Tareen a legal notice, accusing him of breaching a clause in the franchise agreement and demanding a formal apology for his public criticism of the league’s management.
