The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of PKR 3.0 per kWh for K-Electric (KE) consumers for the billing month of March 2025.

This adjustment pertains to the month of December 2024 and reflects NEPRA's commitment to align tariffs with variations in fuel charges.

According to an official notification, the adjustment is provisional and subject to future modifications once NEPRA determines the multi-year tariff (MYT) for KE for the period from FY 2024-30.

The adjustment will apply to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity consumers of all categories who have opted for the pre-paid tariff.

After maintaining prices above $100 per barrel for approximately two years, Brent crude oil has seen a significant decline, dropping nearly 25% since early July and reaching a four-year low of around $86 per barrel. This downward trend is primarily influenced by a combination of supply and demand dynamics.

An abundant oil supply coupled with persistently weak demand has largely driven the price drop, further compounded by diminishing worries about potential supply disruptions due to geopolitical tensions.
