A new Microsoft program aims to equip one million UAE learners with essential AI skills by 2027.

The initiative was announced after a meeting between Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Brad Smith, Vice Chairman and President of Microsoft, on the sidelines of the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2024.

“Microsoft’s commitment to AI skills aligns with the UAE’s vision to become a global AI hub,” said Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications. “Its latest AI initiative will help enhance technical capabilities and ensure that AI becomes accessible and relevant to every resident, government agency, and business in the UAE. We are eager to partner with leading technology players to drive innovation and create new opportunities for our nation.”

Microsoft’s AI training programs are designed to reach all sectors across the UAE, including public institutions, private enterprises, and individual citizens. The company plans to collaborate with various entities to develop a range of courses and resources that will build foundational AI skills, foster practical applications, and help users integrate AI into their daily lives and work environments.

The meeting also focused on expanding cooperation in advanced technologies, particularly AI, to drive innovation and accelerate digital transformation in ways that support sustainable development. Both leaders explored potential collaborations to unlock new opportunities across key sectors vital to the economy.

The new programme follows Microsoft’s recent agreements with local governments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah to train 100,000 government employees in the latest AI technologies.
