Analysts say misinformation spreads quickly when it taps into existing local and global fears.

Social media claims that Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran was struck during recent precision attacks attributed to US and Israeli forces are false, according to officials.
The posts, widely shared online, alleged that the diplomatic mission was caught in a barrage of airstrikes that hit targets in and around the Iranian capital. However, publicly available maps and on‑the‑ground assessments show the embassy sits well outside the reported impact zone, which focused on sites linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
No evidence has emerged to indicate that the Pakistani diplomatic compound sustained damage or that embassy personnel were harmed, officials familiar with the situation said. There has been no official confirmation of any impact on the mission’s operations.
The false narrative has circulated against the backdrop of heightened regional tensions, sparked by a series of exchanges between the United States, Israel and Iran that have raised fears of broader conflict.
In recent weeks, Tehran has reported a number of strikes on military targets it blames on Western and Israeli actions, as violence in neighboring theatres escalates.
Analysts say misinformation can spread rapidly during such periods of strained relations, particularly when narratives align with existing fears among local and international audiences. The Pakistan mission remains fully operational in Tehran, and there are no indications of disruptions to its consular services or diplomatic activities.
Independent verification of images and location data associated with the viral claims shows no credible linkage to Pakistan’s embassy. Experts cautioned that misattributed visuals and unverified reports can fuel misunderstanding and strain bilateral ties if left unchallenged.
