Pakistan achieved its inflation target for fiscal year 2025-26, with average annual consumer inflation recorded at 7.05%, matching the government's official target for the fiscal year, according to data released by the national statistics agency on Wednesday.

The government had set an average inflation target of 7.05% for FY2025-26, and the latest data showed the target was met.

June inflation eases on monthly basis

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate stood at 11.07% year over year in June, while prices fell 0.30% month over month from May, the statistics agency said.

Urban inflation declined 0.47% from the previous month, while rural inflation fell 0.03%.

Urban areas: Tomatoes, onions lead monthly price surge

Among urban consumers, tomato prices surged 90.1% in June from May, followed by onions, up 20.80%, potatoes, up 17.76%, and fresh vegetables, up 12.55%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, chicken prices fell 22.44%, eggs declined 10.74%, mung beans (moong dal) dropped 1.04%, and chickpeas (chana dal) fell 0.38% from the previous month.

The statistics agency also reported that newspaper prices rose 14.84%, while the cost of medical tests increased 1.48% and doctor consultation fees climbed 1.47% in urban areas.

Rural areas: Vegetable prices jump sharply

In rural areas, tomato prices climbed 90.24% in June from May, while potatoes rose 36.53%, onions increased 22.26%, fresh vegetables gained 9.70%, and wheat prices edged up 1.11%, according to the statistics agency.

Meanwhile, chicken prices declined 20.97%, eggs fell 11.55%, chana dal prices decreased 2.46%, mash dal dropped 1.83%, and masoor dal declined 1.58% during the month.

The agency added that newspaper prices in rural areas rose 14.29%, while medical test charges increased 2.22% and doctor consultation fees climbed 2.34% in June.
