Pakistan has launched its fourth Hangor-class submarine, PNS Ghazi, at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, as the country continues to expand its naval capabilities, according to the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
All four submarines being built in China are now undergoing final sea trials ahead of their transfer to the Pakistan Navy, part of a broader plan to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines.
Under the agreement with China, the remaining four submarines will be constructed domestically at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) through a technology transfer program.
The Hangor-class submarines are equipped with modern weapons and sensor systems designed to engage targets at extended ranges. Analysts say their addition could alter the balance of undersea capabilities in the region, particularly in the strategically sensitive waters of the Arabian Sea.
The launch was attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and China, underscoring ongoing military cooperation between the two countries. Observers note that Pakistan’s submarine expansion is part of a broader regional trend of naval modernization in South Asia.
