Pakistan's military on Sunday condemned remarks by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who warned that Pakistan must decide whether it wants to be part of "geography or history."

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) called the comments provocative, irresponsible, and a threat to regional peace and stability.

What did Pakistan's military say about the 'geography or history' remark?

The ISPR rejected Dwivedi's statement as a product of a "delusional and hallucinatory belief system."

It asserted that Pakistan is a significant global player, a declared nuclear power, and an inseparable part of South Asia's geography and history. Threatening a sovereign nuclear state with elimination, the military said, amounted to "cognitive bankruptcy, madness, and warmongering."

What did Indian Army chief Upendra Dwivedi actually say?

Dwivedi issued the warning on Saturday, saying that if Pakistan continued to harbor terrorists and act against India, it would have to decide whether it wanted to remain part of geography or history.

The remarks came a day after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh made similarly pointed statements, and followed an RSS leader's separate call for dialogue with Pakistan.

How did Pakistan frame India's broader conduct in the region?

The ISPR accused India of failing to reconcile with Pakistan's existence over eight decades, alleging that a "hubristic, jingoistic and myopic mindset" had repeatedly pushed the region toward wars and crises.

It further said that New Delhi has historically sponsored terrorism, conducted transnational assassinations, and run global disinformation campaigns.

Pakistan's military said India's current posture reflected frustration over its inability to undermine Pakistan, particularly following what it referred to as "Marka-e-Haq."

What warning did Pakistan issue over the risk of regional conflict?

The ISPR cautioned that any conflict between the two countries would carry mutual and devastating consequences, and would not remain geographically confined.

It said responsible nuclear powers must demonstrate restraint, maturity, and strategic sobriety rather than speaking in terms of national erasure.

"India needs to reconcile with Pakistan's salience and learn to peacefully co-exist with it," the statement said.
