Local mobile companies manufactured and assembled 3.59 million units in July, up 123% from the same month last year and 64% higher than June, according to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Analysts said the surge was driven largely by base effects. In July 2024, sales slumped after excessive pre-buying in June ahead of anticipated changes in the federal budget. Similarly, June 2025 volumes fell to 2.19 million units due to supply chain disruptions triggered by regional conflicts.

During the first seven months of 2025, locally manufactured and assembled mobile phone sales totaled 17.83 million units, down 6% year-on-year. Of these, 52% (9.36 million units) were 2G phones and 48% (8.47 million units) were smartphones.

Pakistan met 95% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly between January and July this year.

The top 10 locally assembled brands in the seven-month period were led by VGO Tel (2.12 million units), followed by Infinix (2.01 million), Itel (1.53 million), Vivo (1.38 million), Xiaomi (1.04 million), Samsung (0.93 million), Tecno (0.89 million), QMobile (0.72 million), G’Five (0.70 million), and Nokia (0.65 million).

Outlook

Looking ahead, Topline Securities expects mobile phone sales to grow 7-8% year-on-year over the next 12 months as base effects normalize and inflation remains subdued.

Seasonal product launches could further lift demand, analysts said, noting that brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi typically release new models around September.

Within the listed space, Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) and Lucky Cement (LUCK) are expected to benefit from rising demand, as their locally assembled brands, including Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung, are among the top 10 in Pakistan.
