Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha on 15 September, as regional leaders convene to condemn Israel’s recent airstrikes on Hamas officials in Qatar and reaffirm solidarity with the Gulf state.
The gathering comes amid escalating tensions in Gaza, Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, and growing threats to Palestinian communities.
The Israeli strikes on Doha on Tuesday targeted Hamas leaders, killing five members and a Qatari security officer. The attacks sparked widespread international criticism, including from Gulf states allied with the United States, Israel’s main backer. Analysts say the summit is intended to send Israel a strong signal against violations of sovereignty.
“The strikes are viewed across the Gulf as an unprecedented attack on diplomacy itself,” said Andreas Krieg of King’s College London. “The goal is to set clear red lines and challenge the notion that Israel can act with impunity. Expect a firmer stance on Palestine and a tougher position on Israeli actions.”
Co-sponsored by Pakistan, the summit aims to draft a unified response to the attacks, with a preparatory ministerial session scheduled for 14 September.
The summit will review “a draft resolution on the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar,” reflecting broad Arab and Islamic condemnation of the strikes.
Expected participants include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s attendance is yet to be confirmed.
Ahead of the summit, Prime Minister Sharif visited Doha on 11 September to meet Qatari leaders, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Qatar’s sovereignty and regional stability. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will attend the preparatory session on September 14.
Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli aggression and views the summit as a key platform to promote regional unity and peace.
