Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone call on Monday to discuss escalating tensions in the Gulf and broader Middle East, emphasizing the need for diplomacy, restraint, and regional stability.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders discussed the evolving security situation and underscored that continued conflict could destabilize an already fragile environment.
Sharif stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolve disputes peacefully, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate mediation and reduce regional tensions.
The call also included updates on Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting stability, with Sharif reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to constructive engagement in regional peace efforts.
He further emphasized the importance of solidarity within the Muslim world, noting that greater cohesion among Muslim-majority countries is critical amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
The conversation opened with the leaders exchanging Eid-ul-Fitr and Nowruz greetings. Sharif extended felicitations to Pezeshkian and the people of Iran, which the Iranian president reciprocated with best wishes for Pakistan.
Pakistan and Iran share a long border and maintain multifaceted relations, including trade, energy cooperation, and regional security coordination. Both countries have also collaborated within broader regional and multilateral frameworks to address common challenges such as border management and counterterrorism.
The call comes amid rising Gulf tensions, where geopolitical rivalries and ongoing conflicts have raised security concerns. Pakistan has consistently advocated for peaceful solutions, emphasizing regional cooperation and dialogue as essential to long-term stability.
