A kidnapping case in Pakistan’s Lahore took a shocking twist when police discovered the alleged victim had staged his own abduction to extort PKR 20 million from his family.
According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate Police Station, Abdul Rehman reported his 30-year-old son, Sagheer Ahmed, missing after he failed to return home from work. Later, Rehman received a distressing call from his son’s number.
"Unknown persons have kidnapped me," Sagheer said before the call abruptly disconnected, raising suspicions.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran immediately ordered a special investigation team to locate the missing man.
"The FIR was registered without delay, and our officers launched a swift search operation," Kamran said. "Using advanced technology, we tracked down the so-called victim within 12 hours."
Investigations revealed that Sagheer, along with a friend, had orchestrated the entire abduction to demand a hefty ransom from his own family.
In a confession video, Sagheer’s accomplice admitted to the plot.
"We both planned it together,” he said. “You kidnap me, and we’d ask for ransom from my family. No one knew, not even his family. He did this due to a family dispute," the friend said.
Sagheer also explained his role.
"We planned it two months ago, but I backed off because I wasn’t fully convinced. They took me near LDA in my car and injected me with something in my thigh. I felt lightheaded and laid down. Later, when our families called, I gave them different locations," he said.
Kamran confirmed that the plan was exposed before any ransom money was paid.
"It was a well-planned attempt to extract PKR 20 million, but our team uncovered the truth before any money was exchanged," he said.
Both suspects were arrested and handed over to the investigation unit.
DIG Kamran praised the officers involved, including SP Saddar Dr. Ghayur Ahmed, DSP Township Kashif Gujar, and SHO Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, for their swift action.
"Their dedication ensured that justice was served quickly," Kamran said.
