Pakistan and the World Bank on Monday reaffirmed their commitment to deepen strategic cooperation under the lender’s Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for 2026–2035, aimed at boosting growth, strengthening governance and bridging key financing gaps.

The pledge came during a meeting between Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema and World Bank Regional Vice President for MENAAP, Ousmane Dione, who was visiting Islamabad with a delegation.

Officials said discussions focused on expanding collaboration in areas central to Pakistan’s economic agenda, including energy, food security, agriculture, infrastructure and transport.

Cheema briefed Dione on the government’s recent economic reforms, saying they had helped stabilize macroeconomic conditions, restore confidence and revive growth. He reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to ensuring the CPF delivers “transformative impacts” across priority sectors.

Both sides agreed on the need to enhance the effectiveness of the World Bank’s existing portfolio in Pakistan by improving cross-sector coordination and strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure measurable results.

Dione praised Cheema’s leadership in advancing CPF implementation and said the World Bank would continue to support Pakistan’s development and reform agenda. He added that the upcoming visit of World Bank Group President Ajay Banga would offer an opportunity to further deepen the partnership.

The two parties said they would maintain regular engagement to ensure a results-oriented partnership that delivers tangible socio-economic benefits to Pakistan’s population.
