Pakistani Olympian Zahid Sharif pleads for support

Zahid Sharif, a renowned Pakistani hockey Olympian, is facing a crisis. Despite his illustrious career, he finds himself in dire financial straits. With no steady income, Zahid struggles to make ends meet, and his living situation has become precarious.
His landlord has served him an eviction notice, demanding that he vacate the premises by December 20. Desperate for assistance, Zahid has reached out to friends, family, and fellow athletes, but his appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
Zahid also said that he has approached the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) multiple times but officials say that they don’t have the time to meet him.
The former hockey player’s situation serves as a poignant reminder of the financial insecurity faced by many retired athletes, highlighting the need for support and welfare initiatives.
Zahid played 73 matches for Pakistan from 1987 to 1991 scoring 41 goals. He won five gold medals including the Asian Games 1990 and Asia Cup 1989.
