Earlier today, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq sent new nominations to the Judicial Commission, following procedural changes introduced by the recent 26th Constitutional Amendment. These changes include updates to the judge nomination process and the formation of constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and provincial courts.
Parliament recently passed the 26th Constitutional Amendment amid opposition concerns that the reforms could increase executive control over judicial appointments. The government, however, contends that the amendments are needed to improve the efficiency and transparency of the judiciary.
