Port Qasim Authority successfully berthed the LNG carrier S K Resolute under severe monsoon conditions on Saturday, enabling the delivery of an emergency cargo secured after two scheduled QatarEnergy shipments were canceled under force majeure.
According to the port authority, the vessel was navigated through the port's 49-kilometer navigation channel despite adverse weather, following heightened regional tensions that prevented the scheduled QatarEnergy cargoes from reaching Pakistan.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) arranged the emergency spot cargo, which was already in transit, to help avoid fuel shortages during peak summer electricity demand.
The vessel carried 171,951 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, making it the largest LNG cargo ever handled at the Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited (PGPCL) terminal. With a beam of 47.8 meters, the vessel was also the widest LNG carrier to berth at Port Qasim during the monsoon season.
The cargo will support fuel supplies for Pakistan's power sector, helping maintain electricity generation and grid stability during the summer peak demand period.
Port Qasim Authority said the operation demonstrated the port's operational capability and readiness to handle complex maritime operations under challenging weather conditions.
