Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced Wednesday that gas production from the Shams-1 discovery in Daharki, Sindh, had commenced, and that a major mining project in Balochistan had entered the execution phase.
The company submitted both disclosures to the Pakistan Stock Exchange under Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015.
When did Shams-1 gas supply to SNGPL begin?
MariEnergies began supplying up to 30 million standard cubic feet per day of gas from the Shams-1 well to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited on June 1, 2026. The supply commenced under Extended Well Testing following government approval. MariEnergies holds a 100% working interest in the Mari Development and Production Lease and operates the field.
PPL noted that MariEnergies had announced the Shams-1 discovery in March. The Shams-1 gas supply adds to Pakistan's indigenous energy production at a time when output from mature fields has been declining.
What is PPL's Barytes, Lead and Zinc Project in Balochistan?
PPL described the Barytes, Lead and Zinc Project as one of Pakistan's largest open-pit mining developments. The project is located in Balochistan and is expected to support economic growth in the province while strengthening Pakistan's mining sector through increased production and exports of barite, lead and zinc.
The project entered the execution phase after PPL signed a project management consultancy contract with German company DMT GmbH & Co. KG on Tuesday. The signing followed Amendment No. 1 to the project's operating agreement with the Government of Balochistan, which PPL had disclosed in April 2025.
What role does DMT GmbH play in the Balochistan mining project?
PPL said the appointment of DMT as project management consultant reflected its commitment to international standards and efficient project execution. DMT GmbH & Co. KG is a German engineering and consulting firm brought on to oversee the execution phase of the mining development.
The company said the project would contribute to the sustainable use of mineral resources and enhance Pakistan's mineral export potential.
