License plate AA17 sold for AED 8.02 million at the 116th open auction for premium vehicle number plates, organized by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority.

License plate AA17 was sold for AED 8.02 million at the 116th open auction for premium vehicle number plates, organized by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Held at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, the event generated AED 69.137 million. The second highest bid was for plate number Y1000 at AED 4.55 million, followed by plate number V96 at AED 4.1 million and plate number AA333 at AED 3.01 million.

The auction featured 90 premium plates with two, three, four, and five-digit numbers across various categories, including AA, L, N, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z.

The RTA regularly organizes public and online auctions for bidders to purchase premium license plates with special numbers, which often carry personal significance or represent important occasions or milestones.

The most expensive plate ever sold was P7, bought by an anonymous bidder in 2023 for AED 55 million.
