The Pakistan Super League's preparations for its 12th edition have officially begun, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirming the pre-season schedule and opening the direct-signing window for all eight franchises on Friday.
HBL PSL 12 is scheduled to run from 18 March to 2 May 2027, featuring 44 matches over 46 days. The tournament will be staged across five to six venues, marking an expansion of the league's geographical reach.
When will franchises complete their direct signings?
The direct-signing window opened on 23 October 2026 and will remain available until 23 November. Each franchise can directly recruit one marquee player who did not participate in either HBL PSL 10 or HBL PSL 11.
The month-long period will give teams an opportunity to secure prominent players before the auction, with recruitment decisions expected to shape the balance of their squads for the upcoming season.
A franchise workshop is also scheduled for next week, where officials will discuss player-retention deadlines, the pre-auction trade window, auction regulations and playing conditions.
The PCB has confirmed 23 January 2027 as the date for the HBL PSL 12 Player Auction, which will provide franchises with their next major opportunity to strengthen their line-ups.
How will domestic cricket feed into the player auction?
The PCB has aligned its domestic cricket calendar with the PSL's preparations, placing the National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments at the centre of its talent-identification strategy.
The competitions will provide a pathway for outstanding domestic performers to attract franchise attention before the January auction. The initiative is also intended to create opportunities for emerging players to progress from domestic cricket into the PSL and potentially earn consideration for the national team.
We just finished a very good and encouraging GC (Governing Council) meeting of the @thePSLt20 , chaired by the Chairman himself. Some important financial and operational milestones ahead over the next few weeks, alongwith some unprecedented initiatives. (PCB will announce at the right time). #ISLUFamily, time to start ramping up on our PSL12 campaign. As always, we will reach out to you directly to take your input for the next season. What makes HBL PSL 12 a significant edition?
The league's expansion to five or six venues is expected to bring matches to more cities and widen access for supporters across Pakistan.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi described the upcoming season as the league's most ambitious, saying the new road map would provide franchises, players, commercial partners and broadcasters with greater certainty as they prepare.
"HBL PSL 11 ended before a record crowd, and we are building on that momentum by taking the league to more cities than ever before," Naqvi said.
He added that the confirmed road map would provide franchises, players, commercial partners and broadcasters with the certainty needed to plan for the season.
"With the foundations now in place, we are looking forward to an exciting season," Naqvi said.
What did the PSL chief executive say about the new season?
HBL PSL CEO Salman Naseer said the expansion would bring the competition closer to fans while giving more cities the opportunity to host top-level T20 cricket.
“From today, the race to build the best squad for HBL PSL 12 is on. Every Direct Signing, every trade, every retention decision over the coming weeks will shape the teams that take the field in March. We look forward to a season that takes this league further than it has ever gone," Naseer said.
