Officials urged motorists to follow safety guidelines during adverse weather conditions.

Visibility dropped sharply across the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday as dusty conditions and fog blanketed large parts of the country, prompting authorities to issue multiple weather alerts and advise motorists to exercise caution on the roads, Khaleej Times reported.
Electronic signboards along the E311 highway warned drivers to reduce their speed amid the sandstorm, while Abu Dhabi authorities temporarily lowered speed limits across several roads.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a series of weather alerts ranging from red to yellow, cautioning residents about sandstorms, strong winds, and dense fog. A red alert, active until 9:30 a.m. local time, warned of significantly reduced horizontal visibility due to fog formation.
Simultaneously, an orange alert remained in effect until 10 a.m., forecasting fresh northwesterly winds expected to stir up blowing dust and sand, further reducing visibility.
Sandstorm advisory and safety guidelines
Authorities urged motorists to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols during the adverse weather. Officials issued several guidelines, advising drivers to:
- Ensure all vehicle headlights are functioning properly before setting out.
- Keep windows closed and air conditioning running if caught in dusty conditions.
- Reduce speed and exercise extra caution while changing lanes.
- Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
- Avoid distractions such as using mobile phones or recording videos while driving.
Residents across the UAE also reported widespread fog on Wednesday morning, following similar conditions late on Tuesday night.
The NCM advised the public to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow official instructions, as shifting weather patterns are expected to persist over the coming days.
