The initiative aligns with Vision 2030, aiming to modernize urban landscapes, enhance quality of life, and preserve Saudi Arabia’s architectural identity, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

As Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Saudi Architectural Design Guidelines, the Crown Prince emphasized that Saudi Architecture blends traditional elements with modern design, ensuring sustainable urban development that reflects the nation’s rich heritage.

"Saudi Architecture balances the past and present, enhancing urban landscapes while inspiring global innovation in architectural design," said the Crown Prince. He highlighted its economic impact, noting that architectural modernization would attract tourism, support hospitality and construction, and contribute SAR 8 billion ($2.1 billion) to GDP while creating 34,000 jobs by 2030.

Implementation and regional focus

The initiative offers guidelines allowing developers to integrate modern materials while preserving authenticity. Each of the 19 styles includes traditional, transitional, and contemporary designs, fostering creative expression in urban planning.

These styles include Central Najdi, Northern Najdi, Tabuk Coast, Madinah Rural, Inner Madinah, Hejazi Coast, Taif Highlands, Sarawat Mountains, Aseer Escarpment, Tuhama Foothills, Tuhama Coast, Farasan Islands, Abha Highlands, Bisha Desert, Najran, Al Ahsa Oasis, Al Qatif Oasis, East Coast and Eastern Najdi.

The first phase of implementation will focus on Al-Ahsa, Taif, Makkah, and Abha, prioritizing government projects, major developments, and commercial structures.

The Saudi Architecture Characters Map will be implemented through government partnerships, engineering firms, and real estate developers, according to SPA.
