Three people were killed and four others, including a toddler, were wounded on Sunday in a shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival in Seattle, police said.

One suspect has been taken into custody, while officers continue searching for a second person believed to be involved.

What happened at the Bite of Seattle shooting?

Gunfire broke out around 6 p.m. local time at Seattle Center during the Bite of Seattle food festival, witnesses told the Seattle Times.

Police believe two people were shooting at each other, Seattle Police Department Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis said at a media briefing Sunday night. Officers responded and "addressed one of the shooters" after hearing gunshots in the area, police said.

How many people were killed and injured?

Three people died and four others were wounded, Davis said. One victim who was hospitalized later died of their injuries, raising the death toll to three.

The remaining four wounded, including a toddler, were in stable condition, Davis added. Local media had earlier reported two deaths and five injuries before the toll was updated.

Is a suspect in custody?

Police have one suspect in custody, described by Davis only as a "young person." A second suspect remains at large, and police said they currently have no description of that individual.

Detectives from homicide and gun violence reduction units are on scene, though Davis did not confirm whether the gang unit had been called in. Two guns were recovered at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

Is there an ongoing threat to the public?

Davis said police believe there is no outstanding threat to the community following the shooting. Officials have not disclosed a motive for the attack. One suspect is currently being interviewed by investigators.

What have officials said about the shooting?

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson called the shooting "an unbelievable tragedy, and a horrific act of violence" during the joint briefing with police.

She said the city is facing "far too much gun violence," noting that Seattle had seen three major gun violence incidents in the days before this one. Officials did not provide further details on the circumstances leading to the shooting.
