  • Singham Again marks the third film in the Singham series and the fifth in Rohit Shetty's Copverse
  • It features Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ranveer Singh, again
  • Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff make their Copverse debut in this five-minute trailer
Just when you thought that director Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe couldn’t get any better, he returns with Singham Again, the third film in the Singham franchise. Both the films in the series did well when they were released and the director will be hoping to make it three out of three with the latest flick which is scheduled to be released on November 1.

However, Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyya 3 will also be released on the same day, which will certainly cut down the number of shows for both films. Considering Stree 2 has broken all box office records, it will be a tough battle between the two sequels – one action, one horror comedy. Here's why Singham Again should succeed, despite its record five-minute trailer. Read on:

Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham is back!

The first reason why I believe Singham Again would do well at the box office is because of the title character Bajirao Singham. The first Singham came in 2011 and the sequel followed four years later, and now after a decade, the honest DCP from Shivgarh is back. In the meantime, He teamed up with Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar in Simmba (2018) and Sooryavanshi (2021), bringing his full force to the action.

I still get goosebumps thinking about Singham’s entry in Simmba where the whole theatre in Karachi’s Nueplex Cinema clapped madly because they weren’t expecting him to make an appearance. It was six months before Captain America wielded Mjölnir in Avengers: Endgame, giving this moment in Simmba an even more unexpected thrill.

If Singham can create such excitement in Pakistan, imagine the frenzy in India where he's a household name and where audiences love high-octane action all year round.

Five minutes may be too long, but it's not for one character

Ajay Devgn may be playing the title character here but he is like the Captain America of this Indian Avengers team. Alongside Singham are his wife (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Simmba (Ranveer Singh), and Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), his men at arms from the earlier Copverse films. Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff join as Lady Singham and Satya, bringing their distinct energy to the team.

While both the new additions are Singham’s fans, they also bring their unique flavor that completes this team. It would be interesting to see how Rohit Shetty uses all these actors without going overboard. The biggest criticism he faced after the trailer’s release was revealing too much for the audience. Knowing Rohit Shetty, the trailer likely scratches the surface.

Arjun Kapoor channels his inner Gabbar

Thankfully Arjun Kapoor makes his presence as the antagonist Danger Lanka in the film, the guy who kidnaps Avni aka Mrs. Singham without worrying about the consequences. He channels a menacing presence, reminiscent of the legendary Gabbar Singh from Sholay. If Arjun has to stand as tall as Gabbar, he will have to give his best performance yet, because that’s the only way he can stay relevant to the plotline.

His character Danger Lanka seems menacing, and feared by everyone. He might have gotten away with it too, but then, he hadn't met Singham, who is nothing short of a ‘Danger’ himself. The clash between the two would be epic considering both are fierce and determined, making their clash an epic battle of wills.

Bombastic dialogues might make your day

Most Bollywood films fail because their dialogues lack punch. Writers need to craft lines that stick, not cheesy or forgettable ones, but ones that leave a mark. Deepika's empowering lines about a woman's role, and Ranveer's humorous take on a fellow officer's dramatic entrance, both stand out.

And then there is a nod to the famous TV show CID when Avni asks Daya to break down a door, a moment sure to elicit cheers. After all, the Daya in CID and Daya here are played by the same actor – Dayanand Shetty.

What might not work for Singham Again?

Back when the last Singham film was released, OTT platforms were not competing with cinema. Now, with Netflix and Amazon Prime, attracting audiences to theaters is a bigger challenge. The film might be an out-and-out masala entertainer from the brand Rohit Shetty but cinema dynamics have changed in the last 10 years.

Add to that the clash with Bhool Bhulaiyya 3 and the result might be different for the Copverse. The film might benefit from its Diwali release and references to the Ramayana, but after the festive season, it could struggle, especially internationally where these references might not resonate. Not everyone around the world might get the references, especially in the GCC countries where Pakistanis and Bangladeshi watch films multiple times.

Singham Again … remember the date

Singham Again seems like a sure-shot winner, even if Salman Khan doesn’t appear as Chulbul Pandey. It has fast cars, and intense action across land, air, and sea, and Singham returning after a decade. If you're not familiar with him, even his character in the trailer tells you ‘To Google him.’

In short, Bajirao Singham is a common man’s cop and appeals to both the masses and the classes. The film is likely to have a grand climax where the best cops in India will join hands to save one of their own, just like the Avengers did against Thanos. Remember the date – November 1 – Aa Rahi Hai Police Aap Ke Saath Diwali Manane!
