The United Arab Emirates secured a tense five-wicket victory over Canada in a Group D match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Delhi, reaching the target of 151 with just two balls remaining.
Chasing under pressure, the UAE recovered from early trouble thanks to a decisive partnership between Aryansh Sharma and Sohaib Khan. Sharma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 74 from 53 deliveries, while Sohaib added a rapid 51 off 29 balls, including four sixes. Their 84-run stand turned the momentum after the UAE had slipped to 66 for four midway through the chase.
Earlier, Canada posted a competitive 150 for seven after opting to bat. Harsh Thaker led the scoring with a measured half-century, while Navneet Dhaliwal provided support at the top. UAE fast bowler Junaid Siddique delivered a standout performance, taking five wickets for 35 runs to restrict Canada’s total.
Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar briefly swung the match in his side’s favor by dismantling the UAE top order with three quick wickets, but Sharma remained composed and brought up his fifty before guiding the team home.
The victory marked the UAE’s first win of the tournament and lifted them above Afghanistan into third place in the group standings, behind leaders New Zealand and South Africa
