Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to strengthen trade and investment cooperation following the historic one-day visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This marked his first official trip to Pakistan since assuming office in 2022 and highlighted the countries' commitment to deepening their longstanding ties.
Upon arrival on Friday, Sheikh Mohamed’s aircraft was escorted by Pakistan Air Force JF-17 fighter jets as a gesture of respect. He was received at Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and senior military officials, including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The reception underscored the visit's significance, which focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
During talks, both leaders emphasized expanding collaboration in economic development, energy, infrastructure, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. They also expressed strong support for boosting bilateral trade, recognizing its untapped potential for mutual growth. Regional stability and global coordination on key issues were also discussed.
Although Sheikh Mohamed did not visit Islamabad’s Red Zone or official government buildings, the visit was marked by celebrations, including flags, lights, and aerial salutes from the Pakistan Air Force. Strict security measures were enforced, and certain areas of Islamabad were temporarily closed.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their relationship, viewing the visit as a crucial step in further solidifying the strategic partnership between Pakistan and the UAE.
