UAE president orders release of over 2,000 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Etihad
Rulers of Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah also announce releasing prisoners to mark the occasion
United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 2,269 inmates from correctional facilities across the UAE to mark the country’s 53rd National Day, known as Eid Al Etihad.
As part of the gesture, Sheikh Mohamed has also pledged to cover the fines and penalties imposed on the prisoners, who had been convicted of various offenses.
The initiative aims to give the released individuals a fresh start, helping them rebuild their lives, support their families, and reintegrate into their communities.
Meanwhile, Ruler of Dubai and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the release of 1169 prisoners of various nationalities to mark the 53rd Union Day.
Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has ordered the release of 683 inmates from the Sharjah Correctional and Punitive Institution.
Ruler of Fujairah Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi has ordered the release of 118 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Fujairah to mark the same occasion.
The inmates of various nationalities were selected based on good conduct and behaviour, according to WAM.
