World leaders rushed to congratulate Republican Donald Trump on Wednesday after he claimed victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election, which would cap a stunning political comeback four years after he left the White House

UAE, Pakistan, India leaders eye stronger alliances

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Trump, emphasizing the longstanding strategic relationship between the UAE and the United States.

In a tweet, he wrote: “I extend my sincere congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his election as 47th President of the United States and @JDVance on his election as Vice President.

“In building upon over five decades of strategic bilateral cooperation, the UAE and US are united by our enduring partnership based on shared ambitions for progress. The UAE looks forward to continuing to work with our partners in the US towards a future of opportunity, prosperity, and stability for all.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended good wishes to Trump on his second-term victory, emphasizing the desire for strengthening Pakistan-US partnership.

“Congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump on his historic victory for a second term! I look forward to working closely with the incoming Administration to further strengthen and broaden the Pakistan-U.S. partnership. @realDonaldTrump,” Sharif wrote on X.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to social media to congratulate Trump, expressing his hopes for renewed collaboration between India and the United States.

“Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.

“Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity,” Modi wrote on X.

Erdogan congratulates 'friend' Trump

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan congratulated his "friend" Donald Trump on winning the U.S. Presidential election after "a great battle," after Trump had earlier claimed victory.

"I believe...more efforts will be given for a fairer world in this new era that began with the election by American people," Erdogan said in a post on X, adding he hoped regional wars would come to an end.

'History's greatest comeback': Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has faced rebuke for leading the war on Palestine, called it "history's greatest comeback."

"Congratulations on history's greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory! In true friendship," Netanyahu wrote on X.

European leaders pledge support

In his message, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed the willingness to work together for "peace and prosperity."

"Congratulations, President Donald Trump. Ready to work together just as we knew how to do during four years. With your convictions and with mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity," Macron wrote on X.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer also congratulated Trump.

"Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on the election victory. The United States is an important strategic partner for Austria. We look forward to further expanding and strengthening our transatlantic relations to successfully address global challenges together," he said on X.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz joined other leaders in congratulating Trump and said the two countries would continue to work together to benefit their citizens.

"Germany and the U.S. have for a long time successfully worked together to promote prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. We will continue to do so for the benefit of our citizens," Scholz posted on X.

In a post on X Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offered her "most sincere congratulations" to Trump, and said Italy and the United States had an "unshakeable alliance".

"It is a strategic bond, which I am certain we will now strengthen even further," she said.

'Special relationship to prosper': UK PM

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer election said he looked forward to working with Trump.

"I look forward to working with you in the years ahead," Starmer said on X on Wednesday.

"I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come."

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau

In another tweet, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also offered his congratulations to Donald Trump on his election victory, expressing his intention to collaborate in strengthening the economies and security of both countries.

Sharing a photo of the two leaders from Trump's previous term on X, Trudeau remarked, "The friendship between Canada and the U.S. is the envy of the world."

"I know President Trump and I will work together to create more opportunity, prosperity, and security for both of our nations," he added.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

"I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. I look forward to working with President Trump again to advance a strong transatlantic agenda

"Let us work together on a transatlantic partnership that continues to deliver for our citizens. Millions of jobs and billions in trade and investment on each side of the Atlantic depend on the dynamism and stability of our economic relationship."

Ukraine hopes for peace

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy congratulated Trump on the "impressive" victory.

"I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the 'peace through strength' approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer," Zelenskiy said on X social network.

'Peace through strength': NATO

NATO chief Mark Rutte congratulated Trump for being elected president of the United States, and emphasized that members were increasing their military spending, a response to a persistent Trump criticism of the Western alliance.

"I just congratulated Donald Trump on his election as President of the United States. His leadership will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through NATO," Rutte said in a post on X.

'Biggest comeback:' Hungary

Hungary's Prime Minister Victor Orban, who had had openly endorsed Trump's presidential bid, posted enthusiastic messages on X.

"The biggest comeback in US political history! Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his enormous win. A much needed victory for the World!" he wrote.

Orban said earlier this week that Europe would need to rethink its support of Ukraine if Trump was re-elected president.

Trump claimed victory in the 2024 presidential contest after Fox News projected that he had defeated Democrat Kamala Harris, which would cap a stunning political comeback four years after he left the White House.
