The Abu Dhabi leg of Cancer Run™ 2026 has entered the Guinness World Records™ after registering the highest number of nationalities ever represented in a single running event, organizers announced on Sunday.

Presented by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and organized by Plan b Group, the run took place at Hudayriyat Island with participants from 71 countries, bringing together cancer survivors, families, athletes, health advocates and community members in a collective show of support against the disease, according to WAM.

Held with the backing of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event highlighted the emirate’s growing focus on preventive healthcare, early cancer screening and active lifestyles. Organizers said the initiative complements broader national efforts to strengthen cancer awareness, research and treatment infrastructure, including the recent launch of a high-potency oncology drug manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi.

Designed to be inclusive, the event offered race categories of 1km, 3km, 5km and 10km, allowing participation from children, first-time runners, fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes alike. Medical teams and hydration stations were deployed throughout the course to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Dr Harmeek Singh, Founder and Chairman of Plan b Group, said the record-setting achievement underscored the power of community-driven action. “What we witnessed at Hudayriyat Island was a powerful reminder that people from diverse backgrounds can unite for a shared purpose. This run was not only about setting a record, but about standing together against a disease that affects entire families and communities,” he said.

Following the success of the Abu Dhabi edition, Cancer Run™ 2026 will head to Dubai on 7 February, with the next race scheduled at Dubai Festival City under the support of the Dubai Sports Council. Organizers expect even broader participation as the campaign continues to build momentum nationwide.
